Dear Schlage: I Hate You!

I am not a very smart person.  Well, actually I have been told I am intelligent, but when it comes to common sense, I am kind of lacking.

Today I walked to the store with the kids.  Miss Baby was in the stroller, and Little Guy was in the Comfy Joey ring sling.  I didn't need to go to the store, but I have a bit of a Dr. Pepper addiction habit, and I like to get out of the house, so we bundled up and went for a walk.

Now, something about my husband is that he likes quality.  Or at least the perception of quality, so we have Schlage doorknobs, because they are "nicer" than the Kwikset.  They also SUCK.  Apparently as a "safety feature" you can open the door from the inside even when it is locked.  That way when there is a fire you can get out of the house without fumbling with the lock.  Except you still have to be able to unlock a deadbolt...

People with an insufficient amount of common sense do NOT appreciate this safety feature.  In fact some of us downright HATE it.  Thankfully I am pretty paranoid about it, because I know I tend to be forgetful, so I have only locked myself three times.

1)  The first time I locked myself out was right after we got the new (idiotic) doorknobs.  I took the dog outside and shut the door behind me.  Leaving me outside and three kids inside.  Thankfully the girls I baby sat were about 3, so they were able to open the door and let me back in after I banged on the windows and got their attention.  They wouldn't have been able to open it if the door locked from the inside, but then again if the door didn't lock from the inside we wouldn't have had this problem...

2)  A few weeks ago Hadlee and I were getting ready to take a walk.  I decided to take the dog outside before we left, but Hadlee was super helpful and shut the door behind us.  My phone was in the house, so we sat outside for awhile, the two neighbors I know were not home, and Miss Baby was on a visit so I couldn't leave and go use a phone somewhere.  Luckily Hadlee's mom randomly showed up early to pick her up, so we all went to their house and waited for Michael.

Miss Baby LOVES the Cozy Coupe.  I love that she has
my sister's old Cozy Coupe so it doesn't have a stupid
face like the new ones.  Thanks Megan!

Also, this picture is from a few months ago, she was
wearinga nice warm coat today :)
3)  Today I walked to the store with the kids.  Miss Baby was in the stroller, and Little Guy was in the Comfy Joey ring sling.  I didn't need to go to the store, but I have a bit of a Dr. Pepper addiction habit, and I like to get out of the house, so we bundled up and went for a walk.  It was sunny outside, but cold and the wind was freaking cold!  When I got home I took Miss Baby out of the stroller, and went to open the door.  Except it wouldn't open.  This time I had my phone, so I called Michael to find out when he would be off work.  I was hoping it would be soon because its 2 miles away to the library and I didn't have any diapers.  He got off work pretty soon after I called him, so we didn't have to wait to long.  Miss Baby played outside with the Cozy Coupe, and Little Guy fell asleep in the sling.

When Michael got home, we went straight to Ace Hardware and bought an extra key and a lock box to keep outside so we (or rather just I) don't have to worry about it anymore.  Except I am pretty sure I already misplaced the key...

Manipulatives Monday GIVEAWAY from Mother Goose Time - closed

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I really appreciate it! I have excellent news!  Today is Manipulatives Monday, and Mother Goose Time  is giving away a great prize!  One lucky winner will receive TWO bags of manipulatives!  Mother Goose Time will chose the prizes, but I assure you, whatever they send will be a lot of fun for your children! Manipulatives are a big hit in our house.  Every month we get two new bags of manipulatives, and every month Little Guy asks if he can play with them before the month starts.  The answer is always no, but he tries every month anyways.  During the month we use them for the assigned activities but after we are done with the curriculum, I let him add them to his toy collection. One thing that is in almost every box is a set of counters.  These are often in the shape of animals, which are Little Guy's favorites.  They are used for a variety of activities, and are alwa...

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
