Throw and Catch - Mother Goose Time

Today I decided to give up on catching up with where we should be.  I just jumped to the day we should have been on and went from there.  I grabbed a couple of things out of the other bags, and we went on to Throw & Catch.

I decided that trying to catch up was an exercise in futility, and I kept getting further and further behind.  So I am jumping in where I am, and I will keep grabbing an activity or two out of the bags we missed, and hopefully we can catch up that way, without me feeling so far behind.

Little Guy loves Mother Goose Time, and always gets excited when I tell him we are going to be doing Circle Time.  It is really fun to see him so happy about something so good for him.

Today we did quite a few preschool activities, including literacy, math, and art.  We were in a bit of a hurry because I tend to sleep in to late and I have to take the older girls their lunches at school now (long story!) at 10:30, so we didn't do as much discussion and we also did some stuff out of the other bags, so it isn't really how the day is SUPPOSED to go, but I felt pretty good getting ANYTHING done after the last few weeks of chaos.

First we did some counting.  This was actually from a past bag, and was supposed to be an activity involving play-doh, but since I was on a limited time frame I decided to make it a vegetable counter activity and we made soup.

Next he worked on his Bilingual Book (which we only read in English).  He is apparently really liking the tracing thing, because instead of coloring, he mostly traced things.

Every month we get a pattern set that corresponds both with the theme, and the calendar pattern .  This month it is an ABBC pattern, and he is getting it pretty well for what I consider a more advanced pattern.  He needed some assistance, and wanted to stack them instead of put them in a pattern but we got a pretty long "train" going.

Last but not least, he did a Catching Cup.  I don't have a picture of the finished project, but it was a pom-pom version of those wooden cups with a ball and string attached.

I was so glad to get back to pre-school.  When I get off track I feel so guilty.  First to Little Guy for not following through on what I am teaching him to expect.  Second, I feel guilty because we get this curriculum for free in exchange for sharing our daily experiences, and when I don't do it every day as scheduled I feel like I am failing to hold up my end of the bargain.

It also helped that Little Guy has had a major attitude adjustment in the last day or two, and I got my house cleaned yesterday so that wasn't pulling at my attention.

Tomorrow we will try to do a more traditional day and less of a hodge-podge, but still add in an activity or two that we missed.

Manipulatives Monday GIVEAWAY from Mother Goose Time - closed

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I really appreciate it! I have excellent news!  Today is Manipulatives Monday, and Mother Goose Time  is giving away a great prize!  One lucky winner will receive TWO bags of manipulatives!  Mother Goose Time will chose the prizes, but I assure you, whatever they send will be a lot of fun for your children! Manipulatives are a big hit in our house.  Every month we get two new bags of manipulatives, and every month Little Guy asks if he can play with them before the month starts.  The answer is always no, but he tries every month anyways.  During the month we use them for the assigned activities but after we are done with the curriculum, I let him add them to his toy collection. One thing that is in almost every box is a set of counters.  These are often in the shape of animals, which are Little Guy's favorites.  They are used for a variety of activities, and are alwa...

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
