There's A Cow in My House - Mother Goose Time

Every month we get a new CD included with our Mother Goose Time curriculum.  Each month has a different style of music, ranging from rock to classical, but with songs for children that match VERY well with the theme of the month.  This month is country inspired, and out of the 11 CDs we've received so far, it my favorite.  The songs are fun and catchy, and we've been listening to the whole thing every day. 

There is one song - Cow In My House - that is especially fun.  As I was looking through my Teacher Guide, I realized that our Storybook of the Month is called There's a Cow in My House.  So we skipped a few days and learned about cows. 

We started out using one of our new manipulatives: COW COUNTERS!  Something that Little Guy was not very good at when we started (which was almost a year ago now!) was sorting by one feature, then sorting by another.  He has improved by leaps and bounds, and has no problem sorting by color, then by size or shape. 

We used a Rhyme Time Poster to practice the sound that "C" makes, as well as rhyming.  We worked together to find the word "cow" and put a cow counter on the word.  After we went over the rhyme a few times, I let him move onto his all-time favorite activity: Playing with Animal Counters in Cornmeal.  Seriously, he did this for over an hour!


 Then we did a Make and Play activity, to make a Cow Mask.  I was 90% hands off on this project, letting Little Guy do the whole thing himself.  The only thing I did was cut out the cow ears, and draw an oval on the pink paper so he could cut it out on the line.  Which he did not do.  But, he was pretty happy with it anyways.

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you.
