Messy Fun At the Pond with Mother Goose Time

I don't want to jinx it or anything, but Little Guy and I are on track to finish our At the Pond preschool curriculum from Mother Goose Time AHEAD of schedule!  We have been having a lot of fun, and doing quite a bit of messy, sensory fun this month.

Once again we have been jumping around, which is really difficult for me, because THEY PUT THE LESSONS IN ORDER FOR A REASON!!!, but seems to be working really well. 

One day we learned about Bog Plants, which mostly meant learning about cattails. 

Every month we get a puzzle, which Little Guy is getting pretty good at.  We put the puzzle pieces in Play Doh so they stood up like bog plants, then "picked" them and put the puzzle together.  I don't know if I have extra sticky Play Doh or what, but I had to wipe a LOT of it off each puzzle piece.

Along with all the other things in our Mother Goose Time curriculum box, there are always manipulatives, this month we got a magnifying glass and duck counters.  Little Guy's favorite thing in the world is playing with animal counters in some sort of sensory material (usually cornmeal).  In an effort to enrich activities on Duck day, I came up with an activity just for Little Guy (although he had to share with Little Girl).  Duck Counters in the water.  They played for like an hour and got water all over the place.  Getting to individualize activities for my son is one of my favorite things about homeschooling.  He decided the green ducks were the drakes, because they are more colorful, and the yellow ducks are the hens.

On Turtle day we played Snap a Letter, and Little Guy learned what turtles eat (algae, insects, crawdads, fish, tadpoles, and even frogs) AND practiced lots of fine motor skills.  I feel like this month there have been a lot of fine motor skill activities, which suits me just fine, as his handwriting is improving quite quickly.  After he snapped up the turtle food, he wrote his name on his nametag and then put one bean on each letter of his name.

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you.
