The Kind of Mom I Would Love To Be - Throwback Thursday #8


When I was a kid I LOVED to get muddy.  As evidenced by the pictures, my friend and I would literally SIT in mud puddles, and intentionally cover our whole bodies in mud.  I don't know why it was so fun to me, but it was.  Now I wear gloves to keep my hands clean when I garden...
Anyways, my mom was a great sport about it, on a regular basis we would come in, absolutely filthy, and she would just laugh, take a picture, and have us go clean up.  Sometimes in the summer she would "make" us hose off before coming in, but in the summer that is fun, not torture.  I am not sure I will ever be as relaxed about it as my mom.  

See I love kids, and I am not a neat freak, but I do try to avoid difficult to clean messes.  For instance, no child in my care will ever have a "messy spaghetti face" picture.  Because if I give them something messy, I spoon feed it to them until they have proved themselves capable of using a spoon properly with non-messy things like beans.  I don't know why the messes bother me, and I wish they didn't so I could be a little more laid back and let them enjoy getting messy/dirty/covered in food, but they clean-up of something that could easily of been avoided is just irritating to me. 

I wouldn't get my kids in trouble for coming inside looking like this (unless they went on my carpet), but I wouldn't encourage it either.  I'm just a stick in the mud (pun not intended until I typed it, then I decided to keep it)

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
