Lazy Ways to "Clean" Your House

I am not a great housewife.  In case you somehow missed that in all the posts I have written (or not written rather) this month.

But there are a couple of things that make it look like your house is cleaner than it is.

  • Shut everything.  Your house looks a lot cleaner if the cabinets are shut.  Same goes for the shower curtain.
  • Make your bed.  Your room instantly looks much tidier.
  • Collect all the dirty laundry in one place.  In my house this 2 minutes of work makes both bedrooms, the bathroom and the living room look much better.
  • Stack the dishes.  My husband actually tricks me with this one quite often and it annoys the crap out of me.  Because if you take all the dishes around the kitchen (or house if you are as bad at housewifery as I am) and stack them in and right next to the sink the kitchen looks about a thousand times cleaner, without actually doing work.  Then I am all happy cause Michael cleaned up the kitchen for me, only to find that actually he just made the bottoms of all my plates as gross as the tops.  But if you have company coming over this is a great trick.
  • Stack papers.  I LOVE stacks.  They make things look neat and tidy, even if the stack is really a combination of magazines, bills, junk mail and McDonald's napkins.
  • Run the vacuum.  This actually only helps the house look cleaner if you have colored carpets that show every little thing that is on them.  Thankfully I now have a nice tan colored carpet, so it can have some hair and crumbs on it and no one can tell.
  • Dump your clean laundry on your bed.  Unless you are someone that actually folds and puts away laundry in a timely manner.  Then you probably don't have random piles of laundry on your couches and chairs.
So next time you have company coming over and your house is in no shape to entertain, take 10 minutes to cheat clean your house.  Or do like I do and spend the whole time actually doing the dishes and not having your house look any cleaner when your friends arrive.

Manipulatives Monday GIVEAWAY from Mother Goose Time - closed

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I really appreciate it! I have excellent news!  Today is Manipulatives Monday, and Mother Goose Time  is giving away a great prize!  One lucky winner will receive TWO bags of manipulatives!  Mother Goose Time will chose the prizes, but I assure you, whatever they send will be a lot of fun for your children! Manipulatives are a big hit in our house.  Every month we get two new bags of manipulatives, and every month Little Guy asks if he can play with them before the month starts.  The answer is always no, but he tries every month anyways.  During the month we use them for the assigned activities but after we are done with the curriculum, I let him add them to his toy collection. One thing that is in almost every box is a set of counters.  These are often in the shape of animals, which are Little Guy's favorites.  They are used for a variety of activities, and are alwa...

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
