More Vintage Advertising - Parents' October 1947 (5)

As usual, make sure you click on the pictures to enlarge them :)

Carnation Milk is still around.  In fact I opened a can of it the other night when I made macaroni and cheese and realized that I was out of milk.  I don't think we tend to give it to babies anymore though.  Instead we take all the fat out, add corn syrup and soybean oil, dehydrate it and give it to babies.  A big improvment?
Tidykins doesn't seem to exist anymore, except on ebay.  Where they have snow suits for sale.  I like this ad though, I think its sweet :)
Glendale doesn't seem to exist either.  But I do like these sleepers.  They are pretty cute, and available in "gay" colors.
I don't know why these are called Little Ego's Cunning Creepers, in fact the name is pretty terrifying if you think about it.  I don't actually like this baby shirt/romper thing because the "non constricting waistband" (which means you don't need a belt-did babies really used to wear belts?) looks weird.
Weather-Bird Shoes are not around anymore either.  But I love the little Mary Janes shown here.  Apparently its economical to buy Weather-Birds beccause they are reinforced for longer wear.  I remember when my mom wouldn't let me wear my dress shoes until they were "weatherized", so I guess maybe buying pre-weatherized shoes is economical...
Gibbs doesn't exist either.  This is kind of a sad advertisement day, most of the companies today are out of business.  I love this ad because its Halloween themed.  I am a sucker for themed stuff!
Not around anymore either :(
Hood Rubber Company is out of business too.  Apparently children's apparel isn't the business to get into if you want to be around in 50 years.  I am pretty amused by the fact that they say they are "loss proof".  Unless they are galoshes and go over your shoes, how on earth would you lose them?
I love these.  They are so old-fashioned (duh).  They are no longer in business either though.
FINALLY!  After a post of almost entirely out of business companies, we come to Stride Rite which is still around.  They actually still have some pretty retro looking shoes, which is cute.  They are pretty spendy though, and since they acknowledge that "children's feet grow rapidly" it is hard to justify $40 on kids shoes, no matter how cute they are.

Manipulatives Monday GIVEAWAY from Mother Goose Time - closed

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I really appreciate it! I have excellent news!  Today is Manipulatives Monday, and Mother Goose Time  is giving away a great prize!  One lucky winner will receive TWO bags of manipulatives!  Mother Goose Time will chose the prizes, but I assure you, whatever they send will be a lot of fun for your children! Manipulatives are a big hit in our house.  Every month we get two new bags of manipulatives, and every month Little Guy asks if he can play with them before the month starts.  The answer is always no, but he tries every month anyways.  During the month we use them for the assigned activities but after we are done with the curriculum, I let him add them to his toy collection. One thing that is in almost every box is a set of counters.  These are often in the shape of animals, which are Little Guy's favorites.  They are used for a variety of activities, and are alwa...

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
