Motivated Moms and A Horrible Housewife

Confession:

I am a horrible housewife.  My poor husband often comes home to a VERY messy house for many, many days in a row.  The only time he doesn't is usually if I had someone come over that day, and even then, the cleaning only extends to the main living area.

In fact, until this last week, if you came to my house and it resembled clean, feel very special, because I did it just for you!

Last Wednesday I found an app on my phone called Motivated Moms.  I used the demo version for a day, loved it and I actually PAID for the app!  (In interest of full disclosure, I didn't actually use "real" money, I have the Google Rewards App and I earn money for the app store by doing quick surveys).

Its basically a glorified to-do list.  But the genius is that you don't have to think at all!  It has almost all the chores that need to be done around the house in a daily list.  It breaks down big jobs like cleaning the fridge into small jobs, like cleaning the drawers in the fridge.  It also lists everyday jobs like laundry and the dishes.  Even things you don't think to do are on the list, like switching your hand towels in the bathroom.   You can add anything you want to (I am really bad about remembering to brush our teeth, so I have added that as a chore that repeats every day) and hide the stuff that doesn't apply to you.  It includes a Bible reading plan and things like exercise and reading to the kids.

I have only had it for a week, but for that whole week, my house has been clean (well except the formal living room which looks like it has been ransacked, and my bedroom, which I am working on a little at a time).  I have had three people over in the last 7 days and I have not had to clean "for them" at all.  The really amazing part is that Michael has been home almost all of these days and its STILL clean.  It isn't perfect, and some things are not on the list, but because your house is clean you do them anyway (picking up is only listed on Friday, but 1) when something is on the list to clean, you have to pick stuff up before you can clean it anyways and 2) when you spent your morning cleaning house you don't really WANT to be lazy and leave clutter so it looks like crap anyways.) and some things are at different intervals than what might work for your family (I added vacuum to be done everyday because with summer dust and a shedding dog, once a week was not going to cut it.  I use the once a week vacuum to do a GOOD vacuum, like the edges and corners, stairs and hallways).

Hopefully I can continue my momentum and my house can keep getting cleaner and cleaner, with less and less work.

Manipulatives Monday GIVEAWAY from Mother Goose Time - closed

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I really appreciate it! I have excellent news!  Today is Manipulatives Monday, and Mother Goose Time  is giving away a great prize!  One lucky winner will receive TWO bags of manipulatives!  Mother Goose Time will chose the prizes, but I assure you, whatever they send will be a lot of fun for your children! Manipulatives are a big hit in our house.  Every month we get two new bags of manipulatives, and every month Little Guy asks if he can play with them before the month starts.  The answer is always no, but he tries every month anyways.  During the month we use them for the assigned activities but after we are done with the curriculum, I let him add them to his toy collection. One thing that is in almost every box is a set of counters.  These are often in the shape of animals, which are Little Guy's favorites.  They are used for a variety of activities, and are alwa...

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
