Beautiful Butterflies - Mother Goose Time

Butterflies are one of the only tolerable bugs in my opinion.  Ladybugs and bees are the only other bugs that don't send me in the other direction.  Butterfly day with Mother Goose Time this month had such fun activities!

We started out with Camouflage Matching, which was a matching game focusing on the way that butterflies can blend in with their surroundings.  Little Guy doesn't LOVE matching games, because he is always a bit perturbed when he doesn't get a match and I won't let him flip over more until he gets a match.  However, he actually is very good at the game after the first few turns.  After we played I had him count how many cards I had and how many he had, then tell me who had a greater amount.

Then we played Butterfly Migration.  After talking about what kind of weather butterflies like, as well as what kind of weather Little Guy likes (sunny on both counts), I had Little Guy go clean up his playroom while I hid the puzzle pieces around the room.  Then he found them and "migrated" them into the "sun" light.  After that we put the puzzle together a couple times.

Our art project of the day was called Butterfly wings.  I think it looked pretty cool!  Although the project wasn't actually supposed to teach symmetry, I saw the folded paper, and Little Guy started out painting only the left side, and I told him that we could do something cool if he only painted on the left side of the line.  So he painted on one side, then we folded it back in half and pressed on it.  Voila!  Symmetry!  Then I asked him if he wanted to draw a butterfly body and he did, plus antennae.  He did not want to cut it into a more butterfly-esque shape though.
Although we didn't learn about ants today, Little Guy did discover some.  I had dropped a Veggie Straw outside, and an hour or two later, he was eating dinner on the porch outside (at his request, usually we use the table, or at least the picnic table).  He yelled in to me that I had to come look!  I obliged and an army of ants had come to carry off the snack.  After he finished eating I had him come inside so he could get his magnifying glass we got last month!  He looked at them for a little while.  Sadly this didn't end up well for the ants, as he got a wee bit to excited and slaughtered quite a few of them with his feet while he was talking to me about them.  Sometimes sacrifices have to be made for science?

Little Guy and I get this super fun curriculum from Mother Goose Time for free in exchange for sharing our experiences and pictures.  All opinions are my own!

Manipulatives Monday GIVEAWAY from Mother Goose Time - closed

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I really appreciate it! I have excellent news!  Today is Manipulatives Monday, and Mother Goose Time  is giving away a great prize!  One lucky winner will receive TWO bags of manipulatives!  Mother Goose Time will chose the prizes, but I assure you, whatever they send will be a lot of fun for your children! Manipulatives are a big hit in our house.  Every month we get two new bags of manipulatives, and every month Little Guy asks if he can play with them before the month starts.  The answer is always no, but he tries every month anyways.  During the month we use them for the assigned activities but after we are done with the curriculum, I let him add them to his toy collection. One thing that is in almost every box is a set of counters.  These are often in the shape of animals, which are Little Guy's favorites.  They are used for a variety of activities, and are alwa...

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you. At the end of the book is Jeremiah 29:11, which gives scriptural support to the rest of the book.  My only...
