Creepy Crawlies with Mother Goose Time

This month we are learning all about the types of creatures that I hate.  The theme is literally called Bugs & Crawly Things.  YUCK!

However, Mother Goose Time can make even the grossest things interesting and fun.  For the first week we were learning about Backyard Bugs.

Let me start by stating the obvious:  We are behind (again).

I started baby-sitting this week, and although I had planned on bringing the MGT goodness with me to do with the boys, they simply tore apart all of the art projects and chewed on the manipulatives.  But we are gone all day, and getting up early, so finding time for MGT is problematic.  We leave at 6:30 am, and get back around 5:00.  After dinner it is basically bedtime for the kids.

Change is inevitable.  I hate that.  I don't function very effectively without a schedule, and every time I get something set up that is working, something changes, and I fall apart.

Anywho.  Bugs, yucky stuff.


Let's start with the tiniest little bug: Baby Girl!  I have been lucky enough to receive the new Experience Baby curriculum for a few months, and Baby Girl LOVED chasing around the "caterpillar".

On Spider day Little Guy made a Spider Headband.  He loves these headbands, and wore it around quite a bit the next few days.

We also did Spider Sorting, which was actually a little more difficult than usual, because there are a few different kinds of beetles, and at first even I got confused!

Our character trait of the month is Brave.  We played a Little Miss Muffet game, which Little Guy did NOT enjoy.  We got a fake spider, and when "along came a spider" I tossed it at him.  It took him about 5 times before he quit jumping three feet away.  The littler boys were not bothered by it at all.  It is kind of funny, because Little Guy kills spiders and bugs himself, but they are much smaller than this toy one.

God Made You Just Right by Jill Roman Lord - A Review

Most of the books I review are for adults, but I got a chance to review God Made You Just Right, which is a board book.  From the back of the book: You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you!  With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for little ones that God created each of us in just the right way. I love the artwork, it is colorful and engaging, which should catch the attention of small children, but still nice to look at for adults.  The text is encouraging and has a good rhyme pattern, which I always appreciate in books for small children.  It isn't a story, but poetry telling children that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each part of each person.  I love that it talks about the things you uniquely need to be able to fulfill God's plan for you.
