Christmas Past

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday.  I don't really understand the myriad of people who consider Halloween to be the best.  I mean its selfish and weird.  I'm not saying the people who enjoy it best are selfish and weird.  Just the holiday.  "Trick or Treat!" is pretty intimidating if you really think about it.  Anyways, this is a list (complete with pictures!) of some of the Christmas gifts I remember getting as a child (or teenager).  I am sure I will not be able to remember most of them, and I have no idea what year I got what.  But it will be a fun trip down memory lane! A bicycle.  Not this particular bicycle, but close enough.  I actually remember a bit about this one, as I believe this was my sister's first Christmas.  So I would have been 5 years old.  I think that I felt sick that night, or was sure I heard Santa or something, because I got out of my bed and went into my parents room, and on the way I...

Lent and Such

So its been awhile since I posted.  Part of that is because I made up my own version of Lent.  Part of it is because I am kind of obsessed with my new "mini job". For Lent, instead of giving up one thing for the whole time, I am doing one week of a number of things.  First it was soda, then the internet (hence my lack of posting), right now I am getting up early to read the Bible, next week no sweets, the next week no salty snacks, and then the week before Easter its all of the above. Unfortunately I am not good at Lent.  By this I mean that other than the Bible reading, depriving myself of things doesn't help me to dwell more on God and Jesus.  I know that is what it is supposed to be doing, but mostly I just whine because I am a selfish brat.  But if its the thought that counts, I'm good.  I want to be a better Christian, but I am really lousy at it.  I think I am going to keep getting up early to read the Bible, I mean what is an extra ten ...

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

3%.  That is a chance that I will get a white Christmas in my area of the state.  And thats just 1 inch of snow.  Pretty sure that 5+ inches is a 0% chance.  This makes me sad, because I would LOVE a white Christmas, and I don't want to have to go to Vermont to get it.  I am not explaining this, if you don't understand, its not my fault.  Go watch some classic Christmas movies and get back to me. I am all done with buying and wrapping my Christmas presents, my house is decorated, my tree is decorated (although how rarely Michael is watering it is a cause for concern).  I baked cookies and gingerbread, but still have fudge to make, because last time it didn't set.  I need to put the Christmas boxes back in storage, then I will post pictures of my lovely Christmasy home.  I also need to clean before pictures, because I have been lazy lately. One thing that makes me sad is that I don't have TV.  Most of the time I don't care, but I LOVE...

I'm Drawing A Blank...

So lately my blog has suffered from lack of use.  I just can't think of what to write.  I still have my list of ideas, but I have to find it, because, like everything else I touch, I lost it.  So this is a pretty boring entry.  I had a birthday, on the 7th, so I am now officially old.  Well not officially, but still.  I am about 4-6 years older than I thought I would be at this point in my life (childless, living with a room mate in an apartment).  I get to baby-sit at my house now, which is awesome.  At the end of the month I am going to visit my family out of state.  (Sorry trick-or-treaters, we won't be here to hand out candy)  Which is fun, but sad.  Fun for obvious reasons, sad because my husband works retail so he isn't allowed to have time off at the holidays.  :(  Hopefully they will head over here. I tried making bread in my bread machine.  It turned out pretty good.  Fruit flies seem to su...

Lets Make a New Holiday

Mother's Day unfairly excludes people like me. I mean I can send cards and gifts to my mother and grandmothers, but I am not on the receiving end of the celebration, and I find that sad. Three years. Three years since I stopped taking birth control. And three years that I have not had a baby. In this time lots of people I know have had babies, and some are "cooking" their second by now. I know I am not alone in this, I have friends that also have problems with getting pregnant, and I have been a member of online communities with a HUGE membership of ladies that are willing to go through so much pain and hurt to get their hearts desire. People who have been trying for 10 years or more, or have invested every last penny into trying to make the dream become a reality. In a perfect world crackwhores and people who don't want kids wouldn't get them, and those of us who are aching for kids would get them upon request. Its not a perfect world, so that doesn't h...
