Providence

Providence is the foreseeing care and guidance of God over the creatures of the earth.

When we bought our house 3 years ago, it was amazing that we got it.  I don't know if I have went into the details of it before, but it was crazy.  First of all, it was an insanely huge house, but still in our price range.  All the other houses we could afford were about half the size on half the property.  We put an offer in, but didn't hear back for forever because it was a short sale.  Another couple had made an offer so we had to just hope that ours was best.  Since there was another offer on the table, our realtor suggested that we up our offer to whatever we felt we could afford and willing to spend.

We raised our offer by about $10,000 if I remember correctly.  And then we waited.  We kept looking at houses and even tried to by another one, but it had WAY to many repairs that NEEDED to be made for it to be livable, so that offer fell through.  Then we kept waiting.  I believe we waited SIX MONTHS to hear back.  When we did hear back, not only did we get the house, but our realtor apparently never updated our offer, so we got it for the original price we offered instead of the maximum we could afford!!!!

After that, we got an inspection and found out that the furnace was non-functional.  We asked for the seller's to fix it, but it was not fixable.  They offered to pay for a very cheap, inefficient one (that would have ended up costing us a FORTUNE to use), or half of the nicer one we wanted, but for some reason (I can't remember what) we couldn't get it installed until AFTER we would need to close.  In case you don't know, houses cannot be sold without functioning heat, so if the bank inspector noticed the furnace we were in big trouble.  Somehow the bank inspector missed it and we were able to buy the house and get the furnace installed before it turned cold!

At the time we bought our house it was just my husband and I.  Our house has 6 bedrooms.

Fast forward 3 years and we have five kids living in it, and have housed another 10 in the last 2 years.  We truly believe that God has a plan for us, and when you look back you can see exactly what he was doing in your life at certain times.  For instance I have talked a little about seeing my infertility in a positive light, here, here, and here but now I am so certain it was all part of the plan that I really don't dwell on infertility anymore.  I know that God is working all things for our good.  I still irritate my husband on a regular basis by asking when we can go to the Czech Republic for fertility treatment, but that is because I want Little Guy to have a permanent sibling and experiencing birth would still be nice.  Miserable, but nice.

Little Guy is mine.  I don't know how it feels to have birthed children, but I love him so much I don't think it could possibly be any different.  The girls we have now are amazing children and I am so happy to be able to offer them a stable and loving home, which they were lacking.  If we had been able to have children, we would not have ever done foster care.  I would not have my son if I had gotten what I wanted when I wanted it!!!!

If we had not gotten our house, we would have bought something much smaller, that would not have had room for so many kids, and our girls would have been somewhere else.

I love looking back and seeing God in control, even when things seem crazy.

  1. What a beautiful story! Being there for others is a blessed calling. Giving birth isn't fun, so I don't think you're missing anything. Hahaha! And, horror of horrors, I read in the news the other day that medical breakthroughs have made it possible (or almost possible) for men to give birth. Yuk! I'm visiting from Missional Women and now following you on Google+. My weekend linky: http://abooksandmore.blogspot.co.za/2015/11/an-artist-and-more-with-linky.html

    1. I don't think giving birth would be any fun, I just think its probably pretty amazing to have a newborn baby that was inside your body placed in your arms.

I followed you back on Google + and will definitely link up :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!

Why I Choose Christian Light Education Homeschool Curriculum

Last summer I decided that I was going to homeschool our foster daughters while they were on summer vacation.  There were two reasons for this: 1) Two of the three girls were behind academically.  I really hoped that by working through the summer we could help them get on track for the next school year.  They left our house soon after school started, so I don't know how well it worked. 2) I don't allow my children much in the way of screen time, and these girls were accustomed to having TV and tablets in their rooms all the time.  So they never really knew what to do with themselves.  I figured school work for the morning would help with that dilemma. Choosing a curriculum was difficult for me.  I know that some people bounce around and change curriculum a lot, but whatever I got, I hoped I would like enough to use the non-consumables with Little Guy.  I don't like wasting money, and I hate the idea of some topics falling through the cracks because different curricu

Things That Annoy Infertile Girls (or Maybe Just Me?) - Flashback Friday

This was actually one of my more popular posts when it was first published, but I still thought I would share it again.  Any additions to the post are in pink, as usual :) Accidental Pregnancies - So I have been trying for years to get pregnant, you go slut around and accidentally get pregnant? Immediate Pregnancies - You quit taking your birth control last month and now you are pregnant? It takes a year on average to get pregnant.  I get that it might FEEL like infertility but it just isn't.  After YEARS of trying, I can't even rememb

Is Mother Goose Time Worth The Money?

Last night my husband asked me if I thought that Mother Goose Time was worth the money if I didn't get it for free.  I think this is an excellent question, and one that people probably want to know. How Much Does It Cost?: Mother Goose Time costs $75 a month for one child, including shipping if you buy it month to month.  If you can order and pre-pay ahead of time, you can save up to 15%, depending on how far ahead you pre-pay.  If you have more than one child using the curriculum it is only about $5 a month to add a child.  Many of the products provided cover the entire class, including manipulatives and story books.  The things that each child needs come packaged in their own bag for each child. What I Think of the Curriculum: The curriculum is great.  It is thorough and engaging.  It provides me with ideas and supplies to teach my son things I never would have thought to teach him, but will make him a very well rounded person.  He now talks about things he never would ha
