Created To Be His Help-Meet - A Review

I am sad to say after years of wanting to read this book, and being certain that I would adore it, I am less than impressed with it. While I think the overall message of the book (wives are to submit to their husbands) is good, I feel like the author (Debi Pearl) is very negative, judgmental, and condescending.  It isn't the principles in this book that upset me, it is the delivery of the information that I don't really care for (I HATE how often I end sentences in prepositions, but it always sounds funny when I fix it!).  Some examples: She refers to women that don't do what she thinks they should do as stupid and silly ALL the time.  She also refers to men in similar manners.          “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever i...

Keeping It Classy

I like to think I am classy.  But then I think of the long list of unclassy things I do, and realize its just wishful thinking. Classy ladies do not (but I do): Go outside in their pajamas (to let the dog out or turn on/off sprinklers) while holding their arm across their boobs so no one can see they are not wearing a bra.  They probably don't go outside in their pajamas at all. Let their yard get over ran with weeds.  Seriously, I work on the garden area, but all the stupid flower beds are COVERED in weeds, and they come back like crazy.  I hate to admit it, but Michael and I are going to be using poison spray for everywhere except our food garden.  Its just overwhelming!   Let their grass get almost a foot tall (or at least the weeds).  We don't have a mower (Michael is working on rebuilding an old one his friend gave him.  We also don't have a truck, so we have to wait until our generous friend is able to bring his over for us to borrow....

Even With Toddlers, Silence Can Be Golden

I am sure you have seen one of these before.  It might have looked slightly different, or have been worded slightly different, but it was generally the same idea.  I get that they are kind of funny, and in some cases can be quite true.  But not always, and it seems like kind of a cynical take on caring for small children. I have mentioned before that I have been blessed with daycare kids that are very well behaved.  Last summer when I was watching all three kids, I was putting the baby down for a nap while the girls (both two years old at the time) were playing in the playroom.  He was a fussy baby so it took awhile and when I went into check on the girls this is how I found them: Yup, snuggled up in bed reading Dr. Seuss (or at least a not-quite-as-good abridged version) quietly.  I have been able to have them play quietly in their playroom since they were about 20 months old.  I mean every once in a while I would have to break...

How To Cook Bacon

Hadlee and I were playing with the toy kitchen today.  First we were drinking "delicious" "tea" which supposedly was tea with water, milk, salt, pepper, catsup, steak, onions and various other things.  Then Hadlee brought out the pig and said something along the lines of "We can eat pigs.".  I said "Mmmmmm Bacon!".  Then she proceeded to "cook the pig".  I went and grabbed my camera because the following pictures were to good to not get.  Once she figured out I was taking pictures, she started hamming it up so it got a little crazy.  But before that the pictures were priceless. I think she might need a bigger pan... Baking is healthier than frying One of the Care Bears legs was salt, the other was pepper.  She was using the Care Bear to season the tea earlier too.
