Itchy, Itchy, Itchy - Throwback Thursday #3

For other Throwback Thursday posts click here!

Today's pictures are of me with Chicken Pox.  I was two when I had them, so these were taken in either 1988 or 1989.

I had a TERRIBLE case, from what my mom tells me they were EVERYWHERE.  In my nose, in my mouth, in my ears, on my eyelids, on my scalp and in the "unmentionable" area.  I still have scars on my face, because at two you don't really know not to scratch them.  Who am I kidding, if I got them now I would probably get more scars because my mom wouldn't be around telling me not to scratch them.

Luckily since I got them so young, I have no memory of them.  Hopefully when I have kids I can get them Chicken Pox while they are old enough its not dangerous, but young enough they can't remember it.  I sense a trip to Idaho (where at least a few years about hardly anyone got the Varicella vaccine) around my (hypothetical) children's second birthdays.  Since we go over there about twice a year to see my family, it shouldn't be a problem.
I just noticed that weird wall behind the tub.  Is it marble? Tile?  Wallpaper?  Can you even wallpaper a bathroom?

You can barely see the pox in this picture, but I do appear to be scratching what is left of them.  I also might be wearing sneakers in the sprinkler...

That blanket is my baby blanket.  I called it "Ni-no", and I still have it, waiting until I have a baby to use it.  My mom made it for me, and it is still in really good condition, just quite faded.

Poor miserable, itchy baby Rachel.

Breastfeeding An Adopted Child - The Tenth Day of Christmas

Today we are hearing from Teglene.  Her story is pretty long, but trust me, it is totally worth reading through!  She also has a great blog, called The Breastfeeding Mother . I always knew I wanted to breastfeed my children. I couldn ’t imagine doing it any differently. I was lucky enough to give birth to two beautiful boys and I enjoyed breastfeeding them both. Not that it was easy or without struggle, but it was what I wanted to do and loved doing it. In fact, I liked it so much, and felt so passionate about breastfeeding that I became a La Leche League Leader, so that I could help other breastfeeding moms. I really took to the idea of “Mothering through breastfeeding”. It wasn ’t just a feeding method for me, but a relationship with my child. My husband and I always talked about adopting a child who needed a family. We thought, if we can’t have kids of our own then we will adopt. Even if we can have kids of our own, maybe we will still adopt. After the birth of our

Why I Choose Christian Light Education Homeschool Curriculum

Last summer I decided that I was going to homeschool our foster daughters while they were on summer vacation.  There were two reasons for this: 1) Two of the three girls were behind academically.  I really hoped that by working through the summer we could help them get on track for the next school year.  They left our house soon after school started, so I don't know how well it worked. 2) I don't allow my children much in the way of screen time, and these girls were accustomed to having TV and tablets in their rooms all the time.  So they never really knew what to do with themselves.  I figured school work for the morning would help with that dilemma. Choosing a curriculum was difficult for me.  I know that some people bounce around and change curriculum a lot, but whatever I got, I hoped I would like enough to use the non-consumables with Little Guy.  I don't like wasting money, and I hate the idea of some topics falling through the cracks because different curricu

Things That Annoy Infertile Girls (or Maybe Just Me?) - Flashback Friday

Immediate Pregnancies - You quit taking your birth control last month and now you are pregnant? Because they are              intoxicated and forget to take precautions.) Whiny Girls That Pretend They Are Infertile - Trying for 5 months is not suffering from infertility. It takes a year on average to get pregnant.  I get that it might FEEL like infertility but it just isn't.  After YEARS of trying, I can't even rememb
